The Essentials "Fast Music In A Slow Town EP"

The Essentials were a band that came out of South Florida, a little before my time, that featured Pete Moss on the drums. As with most Florida bands you know what you get. Released in 1982 on Safety Net, it seems like a few people would come to appreciate The Essentials way after their time.

Bad Brains "Live @ Max's Kansas City, Feb. 1979" + 7"![]() ![]() The Bad Brains are for me one of hardcore/punk and rock ‘n’ rolls most influential and important groups. No one was doing what they were doing in their era, taking it to such an extreme in speed, songs, lyrics and sheer live power. The Bad Brains could do no wrong (unless of course you were to go see the band and they played an entire reggae set and even then you would still see H.R. doing backflips on the stage.) But for those who saw the stuff these guys were made of back in the day, you too can bear witness that this is the adrenaline rush from the hit. They are as close to the source as you can get. Originally formed in 1975 in Washington D.C., but with a distinctly more funk/jazz fusion vibe they were called Mind Power. Light years ahead of their peers, they were also one of the only all black groups in the punk music genre, alongside Pure Hell. The Bad brains would play Max’s Kansas City and captured here on this post is that document, as well as their first single. Absolutely essential, the Bad Brains are Tits. Band lineup: H.R. – Vocals Dr. Know – Guitar Darryl Jennifer – Bass Earl Hudson – Drums ![]() I could go on forever about the Bad Brains, if you need more info check HERE. The Beast "The Beast Has Arrived"![]() ![]() If memory serves me correct, The Beast hailed from the Jersey/New York area and consisted of the following guys for this release: Guitar Pete - All Guitars Joey Scumrot - Bass Creepy - Drums And finally, the Beast himself on vocals. I believe his name was Scott. The Beast originally released a single in '83 on Mutha Records (#006) which was full of all the good shit you wanna hear from punk and metal as well as some of the hardcore leanings. On this release, it was more the crossover influenced thrashing about. Released in 1986, my head hasn't retained much more than that. Child Abuse "Bring It" Mutha Records 014 /// 1983![]() Yet another rare release on Mutha Records. Hailing from Belmar, New Jersey, Child Abuse boasted with a pre-teen drummer, and aside from all the hub-bub they played a non assertive punk meets hardcore sound with a larger dose of punk when it came to the musicianship. Surely to appease anyone who digs Chronic Sick, Fatal Rage, etc...Mutha bands. So catch this EP here and send your love to Jersey. Confederate "Surrender Or Just Fight"![]() Here's a record good 'ol Rikk Agnew produced that came out in 1983 on Revenge Records. "Surrender Or Just Fight" was a good release at the time and fit right alongside The Adolescents, Vandals and other O.C. punks, as well as Mad Parade and even a bit of D.I. a times. Sadly it never got released on CD, so we ripped this at 320 for ya. Vocalist Rib Finley also did a short stint in Doggy Style. File Under: O.C. Dezerter "Underground Out Of Poland"![]() Formed in '81, Polish lugers Dezerter were one of the first European hardcore bands to actually put out vinyl. Unbelievably, they're still kickin' around today. They had to change their name in 1983 from SS-20 to Dezerter because of the reaction of the Communist authorities. With amphetamine driven guitar riffs and smart lyrics they brought in fans from all over, hitting their peak in the late 80's. Released in 1987 (but recorded between '83 and '85), the live tracks on this recording were recorded in 1984 at Jorcin Festival in Poland, also on here is their 7 inch "Ku Przyszlosci". Feel the passion behind the wall. This ain't no Polish joke...
